Medical pros ask women "Do you feel safe at home" as a standard question?

Or am I on some wife beater watch list?

Wife had surgery this week for internal female stuff. She's fine now.

Surgery required an overnight stay at the hospital though. When the nurse was going through the induction process in the hospital room with her post-surgery, she asked the usual questions, name, DOB, allergies, medications, etc. Then the nurse closed with what she called a "standard question". "Do you feel safe at home?" and looked at me first before my wife responded. WTH? I was genuinely offended. Not once in my life have I laid my hands on a female that way.

Serious question, is that a policy? If so, on what level is that being authorized? Wife claims she had never been asked before.
